Chinese ↔ Japanese translation between two people
Tolkivo translates a conversation between a Mandarin Chinese speaker and a Japanese speaker live, in both directions, on one shared device. Chinese is recognized as Mandarin and can be shown in Simplified or Traditional characters.
How Chinese ↔ Japanese works in Tolkivo
Choose Chinese and Japanese, pick a scene and start. Tolkivo detects which of the two languages is being spoken and shows the original and the translation side by side. Each person reads their own language and can point to a line when something is unclear.
Where people use Chinese and Japanese
Typical situations are a drugstore or department store, a restaurant, a hotel front desk and a city office or bank counter. It is useful for Chinese-speaking visitors and residents in Japan, for Japanese speakers travelling to Chinese-speaking regions and for shop staff.
After the conversation
The saved conversation stays on your device as text. When you ask for it, AI review lists a one-line summary, key points and decisions, to-dos and open questions, such as prices, tax-free conditions or documents that were mentioned. Every item links back to the original and translation.
Example: buying sunscreen at a drugstore
你好,请问有没有不含酒精的防晒霜?
こんにちは。アルコールが入っていない日焼け止めはありますか。
はい、こちらの棚にございます。敏感肌用もあります。
有的,在这边的货架上。也有敏感肌肤专用的。

Good to know about Chinese and Japanese
- Chinese speech is recognized as Mandarin, and Chinese text can be shown in Simplified or Traditional characters.
- Some words are written with the same characters in both languages but mean different things. For example, 手紙 means “letter” in Japanese, while the same characters mean “toilet paper” in Chinese. Read the translation and do not guess from the characters.
- Names written in Chinese characters are pronounced differently in Chinese and in Japanese. Confirm names of people and places on the screen.
- Japanese politeness levels do not map directly to Chinese, so the tone of a translation can differ from the original.
A language being listed does not mean that every language pair has been manually verified, so check important details against the original.
