Good to know about English and Chinese
- Chinese speech is recognized as Mandarin, so ask the Chinese speaker to use Mandarin. Chinese text can be shown in Simplified or Traditional characters.
- Chinese counts large numbers in units of ten thousand (万), while English counts in thousands. Confirm large numbers, prices and quantities on the screen.
- Many Chinese words sound the same and differ only by tone or context. If a translation does not fit the topic, ask the speaker to repeat it in a full sentence.
- Names of people and companies may be shown by sound in the other language. Exchange names in writing when they matter.
A language being listed does not mean that every language pair has been manually verified, so check important details against the original.
