Everyday conversation translation for neighbours and friends
With the Everyday scene, Tolkivo translates a relaxed conversation between two people live, in both directions, on one device. It suits greetings, small talk and making plans with neighbours, a host family or new friends.
Before you start
Choose your two languages and the Everyday scene. This is the general scene for greetings, time and everyday questions, without a focus on specialized terms. If the conversation turns to a specific topic, such as a clinic or a contract, start a new conversation with the scene that fits.
During the conversation
Put the phone on the table and talk as you normally would, one person at a time. Tolkivo detects which of the two languages is being spoken, so the conversation can move back and forth without switching direction by hand. With headphones, translations can be read aloud automatically.
After the conversation
The conversation is saved as text on your device until you delete it. If you made plans, AI review can list the day, time and place that were agreed. Context hints can also describe the likely tone of an indirect phrase and suggest a careful way to respond.
Example: meeting a new neighbour
Hello, I moved in next door last week. Nice to meet you.
こんにちは。先週、隣に引っ越してきました。よろしくお願いします。
こちらこそ、よろしくお願いします。何か困ったことがあれば言ってくださいね。
Nice to meet you too. Please tell me if you have any trouble.
Thank you. Which days is burnable garbage collected?
ありがとうございます。燃えるごみの収集は何曜日ですか。
火曜日と金曜日です。朝8時までに出してください。
Tuesdays and Fridays. Please put it out by 8 in the morning.
That helps. Is there a supermarket near here?
助かります。この近くにスーパーはありますか。
駅のほうへ歩いて5分のところにあります。よかったら、今度の土曜日に一緒に行きましょうか。
There is one a five-minute walk toward the station. If you like, shall we go together this Saturday?
What AI review picks up from an everyday conversation
Most small talk needs no review. When a conversation includes plans or local rules, AI review can pull them out so you do not have to rely on memory.
- Plans that were made: the day, the time and the place
- Practical information, such as collection days or opening hours
- Invitations or offers that still need an answer
- Context hints for indirect phrases, with a careful way to respond
Tips for everyday conversations
- Keep your sentences short and finish one thought before the other person speaks.
- Avoid slang and jokes that depend on wordplay, because they are hard to translate.
- Confirm the day and time of a plan by repeating it once.
- Tone and humour do not always carry over in translation. If a reply seems unexpected, check the original and ask again.
Questions people ask before they start
Which scene should I choose if I am not sure?
Choose Everyday. It is the general scene for greetings and daily questions. Choose a specific scene, such as Dining or Errands, when the conversation has a clear topic.
Can more than two people join the conversation?
Tolkivo is designed for two people who speak in turns with one device between them. In a group, let one person from each language speak at a time.
